Holy shit, this beer was amazing. From the bottle:
Our holiday offering brewed with English pale and specialty malts and molasses. Matured in freshly emptied brandy barrels and conditioned with mission figs. Gently spiced with the world’s finest Ceylon cinnamon and whole nutmeg. "Now, bring us some figgy pudding!" the carolers demand. We are pretty sure this ale is what they mean, though you will will want to keep some for yourself.
And my actual tasting notes, verbatim:
yummmmm
deep, rich oaked dark fruit flavors
a little sharp at the front
smooth, not overly boozy
Okay, I guess that doesn't really scream "amazing", but trust me, I meant every "m" in that "yummmmm"! If you can get your hands on a bottle of Figgy Pudding, absolutely do it. Sweet, complex dark fruits (fig, I suppose) and molasses. The brandy taste is subtle, and very pleasant; warming and quite wonderful.
Do I sound like a fanboy? This is the first bottle of Block 15 I've gotten my hands on. As with all Block 15 bottles, Figgy Pudding is meant to be aged -- I can't believe I have to wait another year to drink more of this, but I'm so thankful that I have another one sitting in the cellar. Here's to next winter!
