Tasting Notes
Three years ago, shortly after moving to Portland and starting this project, I described Hop Harvest Ale as "creamy, floral, hoppy" and "totally deliciously awesome". Unfortunately, I can't quite say the same thing today. Hop Harvest was almost certainly the first "fresh hop" beer I'd ever had, and I instantly fell in love with the style. IPAs and pale ales seem to be the dominant, so it is interesting to see BridgePort trying something new this year with a pilsener. Clean and light, the hops should really shine through in all their bitter, floral glory without a heavy malt base to divert the flavors, right? No, not really. Instead, what ended up in the bottle isn't nearly as glorious as I'd hoped it would be. Without a heavy base, the hops taste somewhat underwhelming and thin. Clean, still, but not the "punch-you-in-the-face" flavors I was expecting. Bummer.
