My last beer of 2013! I bought two bottles of Jubel 2010 and have been storing them in my basement for a few years; a weekend cabin retreat on New Year's Eve seemed the perfect opportunity to crack one of them open. Unfortunately, I didn't quite love the beer. Jubel 2010 has a heavy, syrupy body and mouthfeel and a somewhat cloying sweetness. The flavor is otherwise rich, deep, dynamic and complex, but I couldn't get past the mouthfeel -- almost barleywine-like. That said, I still have a bottle sitting in the cellar. Maybe it just needs another few years?
