Tasting Notes
My last beer of 2013!
Jubel 2010 is a deeply complex, intensely flavored take on our festive winter seasonal, Jubelale. Available on tap as Super Jubel at our pubs around the holidays, 2010 is only our second bottling of this prized rarity originally released to mark the 2000 millennium.
I bought two bottles of Jubel 2010 and have been storing them in my basement for a few years; a weekend cabin retreat on New Year's Eve seemed the perfect opportunity to crack one of them open. Unfortunately, I didn't quite love the beer. Jubel 2010 has a heavy, syrupy body and mouthfeel and a somewhat cloying sweetness. The flavor is otherwise rich, deep, dynamic and complex, but I couldn't get past the mouthfeel -- almost barleywine-like. That said, I still have a bottle sitting in the cellar. Maybe it just needs another few years?
