Not my favorite photo... but not exactly my favorite Double Mountain beer, nor my favorite holiday ale this season, either.
T’is the season for a big, malty hop bomb... We’ve loaded our inaugural holiday brew up with enough Centennials to fill Santa’s toy bag. Cheers to hoppy beers! Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner and Munich malt, imported crystal malts and Centennial hops.
When
Wililamette Week placed Fa La La La La dead last in their holiday beer round-up this year, my interest was definitely piqued. Surely the tasting panel had made a mistake, as I haven't encountered a Double Mountain brew yet that, to quote WWeek, "feels like a homeless guy was camping in my mouth". Really? That bad?
The good news is that, no, Fa La La La La is
not that bad. Taste is quite bitter and sweet, with a medium malt base, and continuing bitter aftertaste. This beer tastes to me more like a seasonal IPA than a full-on "winter warmer". Decent, but underwhelming.
