Fire Cirkl is a brewery I'd never heard of until I stumbled upon this bottle at
Belmont Station. Here's what the bottle says:
The mission and values of Fire Cirkl are represented in our logo -- similar to the
Zia -- with four commitments that steer the company: body, mind, spirit, and planet. More than simply brewing for profit, we have tasked ourselves with a higher responsibility of doing our part to improve the human experience. We use organic ingredients. We practice environmentally sound, sustainable production processes. We seek to increase awareness and appreciation of our natural world and its history. We provide a trip back in time and brief insight to the history and culture behind the recipe in your hand. All of our products contain herbs that were highly valued by the cultures that used them.
Err... okay. Kind of weird, but I guess that all sounds good. Here's the beer description, again from the bottle:
Ginger originated in Southeast Asia, but was traded and spread around the world. Testimonials appear in 5000-year-old Greek literature, and in ancient literature from the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. The Ancient Romans used it extensively. The Chinese and Ayurvedic Indian viewed ginger as a gift from God. Every civilization that used it praised its powers. Ginger ale/beer was an alcoholic beverage longer before it was a soft drink. It was first brewed in Great Britain in the 1700s. It was not made from grain, but from ginger and sugar, and fermented with "ginger beer plant". Fire Cirkl makes One-Eyed Ginger like traditional beer -- a Belgian Saison, to be exact with a modern twist. She is a wheat ale, made without hops, but with the addition of ginger. She is dry with hints of lemon; a soft malt character and a perfect year round companion -- refreshing in the warm months, and warming in the cooler months; surprisingly complex, but subtly so. Cheers!
What else is there to say? This beer was good and gingery, with a medium mouthfeel and a spicy gingery kick again at the end. Tasty!
