Tasting Notes
For the past year, Laurelwood's Workhorse IPA has been my favorite Oregon beer. Available year-round at most beer shops and grocery stores in Portland, it's smooth, hoppy deliciousness has drawn me back to it again and again. You can imagine my excitement then, when Laurelwood announced last month that, for their 10th anniversary celebration, they would be releasing a special imperial version of the Workhorse. I immediately opened my calendar and made plans to be in attendance. Unsurprisingly perhaps, but if you've had a Workhorse, the imperial version tastes exactly like what you'd expect: aggressively hoppy, a little sweet, with a floral, medium-malted body. Slightly boozier, but otherwise unchanged. Suffice to say, it's fantastic! If you're a Workhorse fan, definitely pick this up if you can find it. If you haven't had a Workhorse, do yourself a favor and try one already! And here's hoping that Laurelwood decides to repeat this batch again next year; I think a lot of us would welcome an annual DIPA this delicious and full of flavor.
