Tasting Notes
We couldn't find the time to make it out to a pumpkin patch this year (boo!), so many thanks to my neighbors for not giving me too many strange looks while I crouched on their doorstep and took a picture of this bottle in front of their freshly-carved pumpkins. Bottle notes:
The newest addition to the Chatoe Rogue series is Pumpkin Patch Ale, a beer made using fresh pumpkins grown in a patch that borders Rogue's 42 acre hop yard. The pumpkins are picked, loaded into Rogue's farm truck, driven immediately 77 miles to our brewery in Newport, quickly roasted, and pitched into the brew kettle to create a batch of Pumpkin Patch Ale.
Pours dark amber with a fizzy off-white head. Smells like spicy cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Festive! Spicy, nutty flavors akin to a brown ale. A little bit of pumpkin flavor, but not a lot. The spicy clove-and-cinnamon from the nose continues for the taste, which makes it feel like a nice fall-y autumn beer. The finish is more of the same warm spiciness, which lingers pleasantly on the tongue for a bit.
