The first release in Full Sail's new Brewer's Share series -- beers not only named after the individual who created them (Barney Brennan in this case, Full Sail's brewing supervisor), but also beers for a good cause. Here's a snippet from Full Sail's
website:
With each Brewer's Share series beer, Full Sail picks a local charity or organization to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the beer. Barney has chosen to support
Columbia Gorge Arts in Education, so every barrel of Extra Special Barney benefits this organization. "I have had so many great experiences in my life centered around the arts, I am excited for the future for my daughter and her friends," says Barney. CGAIE helps kids make those discoveries." The Columbia Gorge Arts in Education provides visual, literary, and performing arts to local K-12 students. Through artist residencies in schools, workshops, after school programs, community art projects and installations, programs for at-risk youth, and cultural performances, Columbia Gorge Arts in Education served 6,000 kids last year in the Mid-Columbia region.
Cool!
Okay, on to the beer. Extra Special Barney pours clear reddish-brown with a quickly-dissipating head. Great balance -- malty and slightly hoppy, but not overly sweet or overly bitter. It's a pretty simple beer, but there's something about it that I really liked -- and maybe that something
was the simplicity. Smooth, tasty, and easy to drink. Very well put-together; clearly this Barney fellow knows what he's doing. Cheers!
