The label on the bottle reads "not for retail sale", but the kind folks at
Lompoc Sidebar sold it to me (for a somewhat-hefty $9) anyway. Score?
Pours a flat reddish-amber color with zero head. Smells like cough syrup.
Taste is mostly a sweet honey-derived flavor, with a bit of a boozy herbal twinge. Not as rich or nuanced as I was expecting considering the "brewed summer 2008" labeling. Very little carbonation. Dare I say... a slightly chalky consistency?
From what I've gathered from cursory Internet research, Bob Farrell (the beer's namesake) was a big mead guy, so I was expecting this to be amazing. It wasn't. To be fair, though, this was only the second braggot (a mixture of mead and beer) I've had the opportunity to try. Maybe it was wasted on me?
