Brewery #51 in the project is Natian Brewing, a teeny-tiny nano-brewering operation located in downtown SE Portland. Undun is their first non-draft release; here's a short description of the beer from Natian's
website:
Summer is here! At least in this pint of Blonde Ale! Smooth & easy to drink, this ale has a soft floral aroma with a nice balanced malt finish.
It may only be March, but summer is here indeed! All last week, ever since I brought a can of Undun Blonde home from the beer store with me, we've seen mid-60s weather and sunny, cloudless skies here in Portland. Coincidence??!?
Undun pours a hazy straw color with plenty of foam and lacing. Smells faintly grassy, possibly wheaty. Not much aroma, actually... though there are certainly some good flavors going on in here! Sweet, zesty, bready, hoppy... in fact, this is one of the hoppier blondes I've ever had; I might be inclined to drink more of them if they all had as wonderfully bright and sweet of a flavor profile as this beer has. The finish is surprisingly bitter for a blonde, again, most likely due to the hops.
On a final discussion, what do you suppose was the inspiration for this beer's name? As much as I like the Roots and their "Undun" album, I'm keeping my fingers crossed it had something to do with the classic
song by the Guess Who, an old favorite for sure. What do you think?
