Tasting Notes
Another from the Ninkasi bomber 4-pack. The label says "specialty ale", but it tastes like an IPA to me. Since the bottle has a description written on it, we'll start with that:
A salute to the playful side of summer, we had fun with this beer! Maiden the Shade has a big robust hop character from the liberal use of seven different varieties of hops. It's completed with a light colored malt backbone to stay in balance.
Sweeter than most IPAs -- I guess that's where the "summer" part comes in? Pretty hoppy and bitter throughout, with a bit of a lingering aftertaste. Citrus-y. I like a little bit more of a creamier malty backbone in an IPA, but I liked it. I think maybe the sweetness threw me off a little, but it was definitely tasty.
