Smells like roasted coffee and chocolate malts. Taste follows; some dark fruit flavors, but mostly chocolate and coffee. A bit woodsy, with a bit of bourbon sweetness. Roasty and surprisingly dry.
As far as dark beers go, I usually tend to prefer stouts over porters; I think porters can be a bit cloying and syrupy at times. Raven Mad is neither; it is sweet, but the roasty malts keep it from being too sweet. it's super-drinkable and really delicious -- quite possibly the best beer I've had from BridgePort. Yum!
