Pours a deep, opaque black with a fluffy tan head. Smells like chocolate and coffee.
Taste is pretty chocolatey, too, and super roasty. A little bit of stout booziness, but not overpowering. A bit of a bourbon-y sweetness, but not cloying at all. The not-too-thin, not-too-thick mouthfeel makes it really creamy and drinkable. This beer reminded me a lot of the
Three Creeks FivePine I had earlier this year... yes, this is a stout and the FivePine was a porter, but both are so creamy, chocolatey, and smooth that I'd love to compare them side-by-side.
To quote my girlfriend's oral review upon tasting: "mmmm... that is what a stout
should taste like!"
