I love beer in cans, I love witbiers, I (
usually) love Fort George's beer, and I love Fort George's can designs. We're off to a good start!
Wit isn't just the brilliance one displays whilst quaffing a fine Fort George concoction. It's a light-bodied wheat beer traditionally brewed with a gruit of coriander and orange zest, and after extensive experimentation we arrived at our own special recipe. Organic lemongrass suffuses Quick Wit with an undercurrent of Southeast Asian citrus. Our wild-crafted elderflower lends a sunny, floral note and a bonus: Europeans believed the elder tree's harvest had the supernatural power to ward off evil.
Quick Wit wards off bitterness, giving your palate room to explore the smooth wheat malt and exotic spices. Our wittiest customers pour it into a glass but stop before they reach the bottom of the can. After a quick swirl of the can, you add the rest and admire how the yeast slurry and beer mix together, clouding up this unfiltered ale.
I didn't do the special swirly-cloudy maneuver, but it poured cloudy anyway.
This beer is more complex than you'd expect from something out of a can, and it's awesome. It's definitely wheaty -- characteristically sour, with a bit of rye spice. You can absolutely taste the coriander and lemongrass, too. Citrusy, spicy, funky, bright, refreshing and drinkable. Not exactly the most subtle application or the most nuanced witbier, perhaps, but we're in Oregon and this thing is pretty damn tasty. Cheers!
