The other half of Flat Tail's "proposal beers"; I tried
YES back in June.
From the label:
Seriously, you proposed with a beer?! Who does that? I mean really, if the bitterness of Wilamette Valley hops doesn't describe how I feel right now, then maybe the fiery heat of ghost chili's will. Toss in the impenetrable darkness of carafa III and black malt and maybe we're starting to get the message across... Just in case that didn't do it, a liver blastingly potent 8% abv ought to. See you in hell!
I held off on opening this beer for a few months because:
- the "ghost chili beer" description scared me a little bit, and
- I was hoping a little bit of time would mellow out those peppers
As it turns out, this beer was freakin'
delicious. The ghost chili was fairly mild and added a nice sweet "kick" to the malty, chocolatey porter base, but wasn't overwhelming. This beer was quite smooth and surprisingly easy-drinking, something I wasn't expecting at all. I actually liked NO a tad bit more than
YES... is that bad luck?
Yum yum yum.
