Tasting Notes
A dedicated gluten-free brewery
Okay, so that's the first thing to know about new brewery Harvester: no glutens. I don't have any issues or problems with eating cereal grains, wheat, or other glutens, though it seems to be becoming a very common ailment nowadays. I shutter at the thought of having a dietary restriction that would cause me to be unable to drink beer, so cheers to Harvester for dedicating themselves to brewing specially-crafted beer to help folks overcome this limitation.
Ale made with chestnuts, certified GF oats, sorghum, cane sugar, and hops
What do you brew beer with if you can't use grains or wheat? Chestnuts! And you can definitely taste those chestnuts, just as you can taste that sorghum. Deep, Earthy, nutty flavors, along with a heavier mouthfeel than I expected. Some bitterness towards the end, but not overly hoppy, just bitter. These flavors all blend together and end up creating a taste that is, perhaps predictably, quite weird. Both my girlfriend and my friend deemed this beer "undrinkable" after a small taste, but I didn't think it was that bad. I finished the bomber by myself without issue, though I don't think I'll pick this one up again. I'm admittedly not a huge fan of reds, though; I'll likely try Harvester again, just not this one.
