After foolishly holding onto the 2010 release for months and being disappointed with how it matured, I had little hesitation about popping the cap on the new 22oz 2012 release within days of bringing it home from the beer store.
I also tried this year's Green Mammoth on tap, and am pleased to say that the bottled and tap versions tasted resoundingly alike! Super-hoppy and floral aroma. Creamy body, very hop-forward, with a bitter grapefruit back. Subtly sweet. Bitter finish. The Green Mammoth seems to walk the thin line between punching you in the mouth with hoppiness and being a smooth and drinkable IIPA, and it seems to pull the balance off quite well.
Two years ago when I first tried the Green Mammoth on-site at Laurelwood's brew pub, I compared it side-by-side against the Workhorse and preferred the Mammoth. I did the same this year and came to the opposite conclusion. I notice that this year's Green Mammoth release comes in at a slightly-lower 9% ABV, but other than that, I don't have a clear enough memory to recall whether the two versions taste remarkably different or if my tastes have changed over the years. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed re-visiting this beer, and it is a solidly drinkable and delicious brew that I won't hesitate to pick up again in any and all future releases.

I've been wanting to try this, but I haven't seen it around Eugene (not that I've been looking that hard; it just hasn't shown up at Market of Choice yet). I very much enjoy the Workhorse, and I look forward to seeing that in 22s again.
