If you didn't find yourself in a Lucky Lab or Lompoc bar the first week of May, you probably missed the C-Dog. I was lucky enough to notice a half-dozen bottles for sale in Sidebar's small cooler while I was there last week, so I picked one up.
Here's Lompoc's description:
A collaborative beer brewed with the Lucky Lab, coined a "Lucky Lompodor Production," C-Dog is a 50/50 blend of C-Son’s Greetings and Superdog. Both beers were brewed into one fermenter, with nine types of hops added in the kettle (the seven Cs, Fuggles & Amarillos). The entire fermenter was then dry-hopped with another eight types of hops for a ridiculous total of 32 lbs of hops in a 10 bbl batch. The malt profile includes flaked barley, Crystal 75 and Munich.
I've always liked the Superdog on tap. I don't remember the C-Son's Greetings, though apparently I
thought it was alright way back at bottle #7. Mixing them together? Hmmm.
Not much head. Thicker, but with bright caramel malts. Hoppy. Finishes crisp and kind of bitter.
This one was interesting. Bright and hoppy, yet it still felt a bit "murky" to me. I can definitely tell that it's a big, booze-y sort of beer, but most of the alcohol is hidden in the heavy malts. Overall I liked it, but I really think I prefer the flavor profiles of the Superdog and the C-Son's Greetings be left to stand for themselves.
