Babylon Double IPA is an English take on an American style of the traditionally English India Pale Ale. Originated for the long voyage from England to India, and adopted as the quintessential Northwest beer style, IPA's have a strong presence in the modern craft beer scene. This big Double IPA is influenced by its English roots, but firmly planted in the modern stylings of Northwest brewing, and enjoyable to hop enthusiasts everywhere!
Perhaps if I'd read the bottle description
before drinking this beer, I wouldn't have been so confused in my tasting notes. Big, floral hops aroma and taste. Quite bitter, with a very light malt profile -- Babylon tastes like a pretty traditional NW-style IPA that someone dropped the base out of. Dry.
...which, yup, corresponds to that
English styling mentioned in the bottle description. While my girlfriend and I both liked the floral hops, we remarked over and over again on how this beer "didn't taste like a Northwest IPA". Because it's not meant to be one! It all makes sense now.
Good beer, and a refreshing spin on an IIPA. Definitely worth checking out.
